Book 2 Heart of Alaska Series-Out of the Ashes by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse

Book 2 Heart of Alaska Series-Out of the Ashes by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse

Hello, everyone. Here’s the review that has been long over due. 🙂 Today we are going to look at one of the newest books from Tracie Peterson.

First of all, I’m not new to Tracie Peterson. I have read some of her previous works many years before I’ve started this blog. I have enjoyed her writing and this book has not disappointed me and my expectations.

Heart of Alaska Book 2- Out of the Ashes- is a great novel, set in 1925 Curry, Alaska, a compilation from Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse. If you have followed along, you will remember Allan and Cassidy’s budding relationship from the last book. Here we still get to see how Cassidy and Allan are doing with their marriage, but we get to meet three new characters, Jean- Michel Langelier and his sister, Collette, along with Katherine Demarchis.

Cassidy and Allan have been married about 2 years.  Their relationship continues to be a loving one with God the center of their lives. Cassidy is always busy helping Mrs. Johnson in the kitchen. Cassidy has noticed a unusual tiredness and dizzy spells when we see her again. Cassidy soon finds out that she is pregnant with her and Allan’s first child. Both parents are very excited, as well as the tough Mrs. Johnson. Cassidy soon becomes an emotional roller coaster and tries to pray for the Lord to guide her in her tough time.

Jean-Michel Langlier and his sister, Collette, have just lost their father and are both grieving. His father, in his will, suggested that Jean-Michel and Collette go on a trip around the world. Jean- Michel has been battling with, what we would say today Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He cannot escape the haunting recurrent nightmares and doesn’t feel that a trip should happen. As well, his sister Collette is very wayward and he has no idea what his father wanted him to do. All his father said was to seek God, but how can he seek God and guide his sister, when Jean- Michel doesn’t know what to do himself. However, Jean-Michel receives a letter from his former love’s, Katherine Demarchis, grandmother,Mrs. Harrison. In the letter, she expresses her growing  concern for her granddaughter and her abusive marriage (Katherine’s husband has died) and feels that if Katherine would see Jean-Michel, she would open her heart to love again.

Will Jean-Michel and Katherine be able to heal from their wounds? Will all three individuals find their way to God and will they open their hearts to love again? I guess you are going to have to grab a copy for yourself. 🙂

Finding the Finish Line by Andrea Cladis

Hi, everyone Happy 2018. Sorry, for the delay in a book review this year. I’ve been struggling with some things going on in my world, but the book we are looking at today has been helpful through my hard times. Today, we will quickly look at the book Finding the Finish Line: Navigating the race of life through faith and fitness by Andrea Cladis.

This book was very eye opening. Andrea had a great way of relating our walk and journey through Christ as a fitness run. She looks at her faith as the way she gets through every hard moment of a race. I loved the analogies and how she looks at life as this endless race. As you reach each mile marker, you are on another section of the journey with Christ. Your faith is test and so much more. Christ helps us every step of the way and helps us succeed through it all with His strength.

This book was very eye opening, and I did enjoy the read. The reading style was different than some self-help, advice books, because it was written in a more personal style. I will definitely reread this book, as I feel that the book has more to offer a second time around.

I want to thank Book Crash and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this great book for my honest opinion. I will look forward to seeing more awesome reads from Andrea Cladis and this  publisher.

Next week, we will be looking at my latest read “Out of the Ashes” by Tracie Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse. This has been a wonderful story and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. 🙂 See you next time.

Happy Reading everyone. 🙂

Coming up

I’m sorry sorry, followers. I need to get back you all. I have several books I’m planning to share with you shortly. I’ve just been struggling with some things and I get busy with my crafts and teaching.

I’ll be posting later this coming week about 2 great reads I’ve read the past month. 🙂 I’ll catch you all soon.

Happy Reading.

A current case unravels an old mystery

Hi, everyone and Happy New Year. This is my first book for the 2018 season and my last book for the 2017 season. I did a great job last year with all the books I shared with you all. I didn’t hit my goal, but I almost reached it.

Today, we are going to look at my latest read- The House on Foster Hill by Jamie Joe Wright. This is a dual perspective book. One perspective is from the current era from Kaine Prescott who is dealing with the lost of her husband Danny. Kaine believes her husband was killed, but the police had considered it accidental. Kaine moves to a town Wisconsin where her great-great grandmother, Ivy Thrope lived. Kaine moves into the Foster Hill House to run from the home and the silent stalker behind in San Diego. Kaine soon finds some new friends that help her resolve and help her find the answers she needs and give her protection and she is soon attacked in the Foster Hill House. However, Foster Hill holds some secrets in itself.

Ivy Thrope,  (Kaine’s great-great grandmother), is still grieving the lost of her brother Andrew 12 year prior. Everyone states that Ivy has some connection to the deceased and want nothing to do with her, because she works with her father, an medical examiner. When Ivy’s father becomes involved in an investigation of a murdered teenage girl near the Foster Hill House, things become very interesting for Ivy. Her former best friend, Detective Joel Cunningham, shows up suddenly after 12 years to help the sheriff and , Ivy is not happy and is uneased. It was when she is attacked at Foster Hill, when searching for clues, that is when Ivy and Joel try to mend things together.

Will both of these women find and clues they need to bring the innocent some peace in their eternal sleep?  Will God help the two women to the clues they need to solve the crimes being committed. You will have to grab this great read. I can’t put it down myself. 🙂 You won’t be disappointed.

The writing style is seamless. You read something that Kaine finds in clues to her life and then you find Ivy is looking and finding clues to her own life mysteries. This is an awesome book.

Home on the Range by Ruth Logan Herne

Home on the Range by Ruth Logan Herne

🍂 Today, we are going to quickly look at the book Book 2 of the Double S Ranch, Home on the Range by Ruth Logan Herne. This was a great read about family bonding and that no matter what, sticking together can get you through anything. The book itself is a nice size, fits great in a carry-on or in a large purse. It is also an easy read. I love the writing style, because it keeps you glued to the book. The only down size to the book is that it is small and the print is small. However, instead of looking at just the physical aspects of the book let’s dig into the story.

Welcome back to the Double S Ranch on the West Coast in the small town of Gray’s Glen. This time we meet Nick Stafford, the middle child of Sam Stafford. Nick is a single dad trying to raise his two beautiful daughters. His wife had left him for a rodeo man two years ago and his oldest daughter is struggling with the fact her mother left. Nick sees his daughter is failing in her school and the principal recommends a psychiatrist to help with the issues. This woman is Dr. Elsa Andreas.

When Nick and her first meet her in woodsy house far out of town, secluded from the rest of the world, Elsa slams the door in his face. Talk about introductions. They soon become friends and try to help the girls get through their difficulties. Remember keep the girls first! However, Elsa is dealing with her own ghosts. As weeks, past the friendship grows and they become closer, but Elsa still hold her darkest secrets. Just when everything is going well and Elsa is adjusting with her new life, the ex-wife  shows back up. Everything topples on Elsa and Nick is trying to put his girls first, deal with a ranch that is short on hands, deal with his past ghosts, and most importantly handle an ex-wife with many serious issues.

A holiday mystery-12 Days an Bleakly Manor

What a delightful Holiday Mystery! This is the first book in the Once Upon a Dickens Christmas series by Michelle Griep. This book is all about second chances. It is an easy read and I was able to easily read it in about 10 days taking my time. The chapters are short and are fun to read. Big print, too!

The tale starts in December 1850 introducing us to  a young girl, Clara Chapman, with  a broken heart headed to her old maid’s house on the outskirts of London. Clara has lost all her fortune and lives with her poor Aunt Mitchell until her brother George returns from America with employment for her to come.

For Christmas, there is a surprise invitation  for Clara to visit the Bleakly Manor over the 12 Days Celebrations. However, Clara is hesitant due to her aunt’s poor health.  Aunt Mitchell insists Clara goes to the Manor.

Once Clara arrives, she see no host and instead a quiet Manor with a few other people, who we soon learn are Miss Scurry, with her mice, and Mr. Minnow, who’s always calling Clara “My Pet”. Several other people soon arrive, but most unexpectedly is Benjamin Lane, her ex-fiance who has supposedly stolen her family health and left her at the altar on their wedding day. A heart breaking act! Will Clara survive the next 12 days with this man, whom she once loved. Will she find he is a different person? Will she forgive the past and  learn to love again?

Benjamin Lane has lived the past 9 months in the Millbank prison as a convicted felon. The man has seen more of his share of dangers and cruelty.  When he sees Clara among this crowd of strangers, he tries his chance on showing her that he is a changed man.  Can Ben prove his case? Will Clara forgive him? Will they give each other a second chance?

Many risky events, mysteries, and more happen at Bleakly Manor in the next 12 days. Will all 7 people last the week, or will there be issues?

These questions will be answered in the book, but you’ll have to grab a copy for yourself. Here are some great locations to grab a copy.

Walmart: $11.04

Amazon: $11.04

Barnes and Noble: $11.13

I can’t close with out thanking Barbour Publishing  for the complimentary book with no compensation and was under no obligation to post a review. 🙂 It was a delightful book!

Until next time, happy reading and welcome to the start of the holidays!

A Social Media Guide

A Social Media Guide

Okay, we all know that Social Media is alive and strong, and it is becoming a normal way of life. We all join Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to link up to friends and share awesome stuff. What’s the harm in what you share? Well… there could be depending on what you are posting. However, did you know about the wilderness that is internet culture?  You might know professional and grandma internet culture, but the reality is a true jungle. (a line I got from a friend. Th9781683223191_p0_v1_s550x406anks, Gamer x45x (xfourtyfivex) twitch.tv/x45x). The book I’m about to share with you looks at just that: The Teens Guide to Social Media & Mobile Devices-21 tips to wise posting in an insecure world by Jonathan McKee.

You’ve been there, right? You just sent that text in the heat of the moment to your best friend. You were upset. You didn’t mean it harm, but apparently now the police are at your door.(Okay, maybe not all instances the police come, but you get the picture)

It’s all about W-O-R-D-S. WORDS!!! Yes, and they are powerful things and more powerful when no one can see or hear the inflection in your voice. According to author Jonathan McKee’s research, “20% of young people post something they regret once a week. Fifty-seven percent of Americans have posted something on social media that they regretted.” (Text from the book Tip 15). Those statistics are frightening.

The internet is a bigger world than anyone has probably dreamed of. You got to have a mind. Don’t share things that can be questionable (nudes, sexting, nsfw, etc; there are crimes about sharing that stuff and it is a fine line). Don’t share information with someone you barely know, especially never give out your cell number or street address or tag your location. Those are big no-nos. Be wise. What for key questions, like what you look like. If they send you a picture, you better double check to make sure that isn’t a fake one. There are many dangers.

There is just so much this book covers. When I first picked up the book, I thought I knew a lot about internet culture and the growing social media storm, but like my friend told me I only knew professional internet culture. Due to this problem, social media, I’m not allowed to speak to my friend at this time; I would very much apologize for anything that happened. He is still my friend. This book has shed so much light for me. Hindsight is truly 20/20, if only some issues could be easily resolved by reading a book like this.

This book made me very nervous and scared at first, it really was getting me to see the harms in social media. That is a good thing! Although, this book has a few mentions of Scripture, this book is for anyone, religious or secular, young or old. If you don’t know internet culture, then you are in a heap and world of trouble. You must be smart and know what you are doing out there. Be careful!

Where to get the book:

Barnes and Noble:  $11.89 paperback

Amazon: $9.97 paperback

Christianbook: $9.99 paperback

I hope you all enjoyed this review today. This book is something that I will keep on my shelf. It really has helped me understand the real world of the Internet. I thank the publisher for letting me have the opportunity in my time of need to read such an eye opening book. God must’ve known I’d need this book right now in my life. I can’t say more about this book.  I hope it helps someone that comes upon this site. My prayers are with you in your social media journey and struggles.

Until next time, snuggle with a good read!!!
