Willie Out West by Rhoda Walker

This was a cute little book about a young Walrus, named Willie who has big dreams of heading out to the Old West. Children will enjoy this little short story and the adventures Willie goes on. We meet a lot of friends on Willie’s Adventures. He also meets some bad guys out there in the dessert. Willie the Walrus is the sheriff and he keeps everything together in his own way that is. 🙂

I recommend this little book for any child under 10. It is a great easy reader! I got the book, so that isn’t really kid friendly, but I loved the illustrations and how the text was written exactly as the pictures showed. It is a cute story and is very enjoyable to read. It even made me laugh.

Lastly, I want to mention that I received this book for an honest opinion from Booklook bloggers program.

Books and short stories for the Holiday Season

Hi, folks… We got a great selection of short stories just for the Holiday Season. We’ll also cover two great books I’ve read this month. 🙂 I’m so happy to have been sharing with you all these great stories this year. I hope that we’ll be able to continue and grow our social network next year. 15 more followers would be a great acheivement for 2017. Let’s make that happen!

So next week, watch for upcoming holiday reviews and my latest book Shadow in the Storm. This book gives me mixed feelings on whether I like it or not. I’m about half-way so we’ll be doing a review on that shortly.

The O’Leary Family Saga by Susan Anne Mason

Cover ArtWhether you have followed along or not with the O’Leary’s  of Irish Meadows in Long Island, New York, I’m sure this book will not disappoint you. This is the third and last book in the Courage to Dream series.

I haven’t read the previous books from Susan Anne Mason, so the entire story was new to me. I enjoyed it very much and I wished for more sequels.

This novel Love’s Faithful Promise follows James and Kathleen O’Leary’s daughter, Deidre, and her dreams of becoming a doctor. However, her dreams are put on hold when her mother, Kathleen, suffers a minor stroke. Deidre must help find the best physical therapist she can find for her mother. Her Uncle Victor, a family friend, knows of a doctor by the name Matthew Clayborne located in Toronto, who is trying a new technique that may work for Deidre’s mother. Deidre plans a trip up to this doctor to learn the techniques and will not leave until she learns all she needs to know to help her mother gain back strength.

Once Deidre arrives in Toronto, she finds Dr. Matthew Clayborne, who seems very stubborn and unwilling help her. Matthew feels very annoyed with Deidre’s company and hopes that she will learn what she needs and leaves him. Deidre’s parents offer Matthew to be a paid employee and come help Kathleen recover, however, Matthew cannot think of such a thing. Deidre has faith that God hasn’t brought her there for no reason and knows he may be able to help her mother, although he is very stubborn. We soon learn Matthew suffers from a wound in the war and wounds on his heart, and is especially worried about his sweet daughter.

One day when Matthew is working with Deidre, he learns that his little daughter Phoebe is sick and has been taken to the hospital. Deidre soon and Phoebe take a liking to each other at the hospital, however, Phoebe doesn’t speak to anyone and hasn’t for many years nor does her father allow her to have interactions with others. Matthew wants to protect his daughter from the cruelties of the world. Matthew feels God and the world have been unfair to him. Due to doctors orders, of fresh air and relaxation for Phoebe, Matthew Clayborne gives in to Deidre’s offer of working for her mother.

Shortly, many things change for Matthew. Is he prepared for the changes he is finding? Will he open his soul and his heart again? Can Deidre accept the fact she may never be a doctor? Will God help them achieve all their dreams and heal their hearts?

There is also a side story about Deidre’s brother Connor, but you’ll have to read the book to find out more about him. What I can tell you is that the circumstance Connor has does affect the relationship between Deidre and Matthew.

This book was wonderful and I loved every minute of the O’Leary’s. It feels that I had known them forever and I will miss them very much. This is one of my new favorites along with Anchor in the Storm by Sarah Sundin (read that review here). But I can’t close with out thanking Bethany House Publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this awesome novel for my honest opinion.

Happy Reading and have a great Holiday Season! 🙂

Our first meeting…

Hello, everyone. My name is Gabi. I’m nestled in the literary area of the Berkshire Hills, where we actually saw a few snowflakes today. I love to read in my spare time. As you can see from the About Me section, I read all kinds of books. It is quite fun to get carried away in a book that you just can’t stop reading…

Here I’ll tell you about and review books that I’ve read and what I think of them in 200 words or less. If you have a passion for Christian, history, or children books, you’ve come to the right place.

In the next post this week, I’ll be writing a review about the autobiography by Booker T. Washington. This is my all time favorite and I think I’ve read it many time, because I enjoy it so much. I’ll also let you know where you can get your hands on the publication and how much they cost. 🙂

I can’t wait to tell you all about Booker T. Washington and who he was…

Please follow me, because if  I get 30 followers I’ll get to review more books for free and be able to give them away to all my readers… 🙂 Thanks for the follow… 🙂
